The Poco M8 is the brand’s thinnest phone yet. With its 120Hz curved display, 4K camera, and a promise of 4 years of Android updates, it’s a valuable option in the mid-range and budget markets.
Design and Build
You can get the Poco M8 in three colors: Black, Silver, and Green.
At just 178g and a super slim 7.35mm, it’s easily one of the most comfortable phones Poco has ever made.
The curved edges on both the front and back blend smoothly into the aluminum frame. Poco even matched the frame color to the body to give it a nice, seamless look.
It has IP65 water and dust resistance and features Wet Touch 2.0 technology, so the screen stays responsive even if your hands are wet.
Display and Audio
The design wins don’t stop at the back. On the front, you’ve got a gorgeous 6.77-inch curved AMOLED display with very thin bezels. In fact, the screen-to-body ratio is nearly 90%.
This panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate, hits a peak brightness of 3200 nits, and handles HDR video perfectly. With a resolution of 1080 x 2392 and a sharp 388 ppi density, everything from text to photos looks crisp and vibrant.
On the audio side, you get dual speakers. They have a ‘300% volume boost’ feature, which is great for watching YouTube or hearing your ringtone in a noisy place. However, do not expect it to replace a real Bluetooth speaker. It is tuned with Dolby Atmos and has Hi-Res certification, so the quality is decent. Just remember that the volume boost does not work for your alarms or headphones.
Performance and Software
Let’s talk specs. These days, your phone isn’t just for calls; it’s your daily workstation and your portable gaming console. To keep things running smoothly, Poco M8 uses the 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset. It’s not a flagship-level beast, but it gets the job done.
You can get it with either 256GB or 512GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. If you need more space, there’s a microSDXC slot (shared with the second SIM slot) that supports up to 1TB. It uses UFS 2.2 storage, so while it’s reliable, don’t expect record-breaking speeds.
The Poco M8 runs HyperOS 2 on Android 15. Xiaomi has promised 4 major Android updates. That is actually a big deal for a phone in this price range because it means you won’t be stuck with an old operating system in four years. Even cooler is that you get Circle to Search and Gemini AI.
Battery Life and Charging
To keep the phone thin and light, Poco M8 uses a 5520mAh battery. While that number might look a bit smaller than the massive 7000mAh batteries we’re seeing lately, it’s the price you pay for such a sleek design. (If you want that giant battery, you’ll have to step up to the Poco M8 Pro).
Xiaomi says it lasts about 1.5 days of moderate use, but let’s be real. If you’re a heavy user, you will be charging it every night.
It supports 45W turbo charging, which can get you to 50% in 25 minutes. But the charger isn’t in the box! You’ll have to buy one separately.
On the flip side, it has 18W wired reverse charging. This means you can actually use your phone to juice up your earbuds or a friend’s dying phone, which can be a lifesaver in emergencies.
Camera: Light Fusion 400
The Poco M8 camera setup is a bit of a mixed bag. The main sensor is a 50MP Light Fusion 400 with an f/1.8 aperture. It’s a 1/2.88-inch sensor, so it’s solid for daytime shots and can handle 4K video recording without a hitch.
Then there’s a 2MP depth sensor which, let’s be honest, is just there to pad the spec sheet.
Up front, there’s a 20MP selfie cam. It won’t win any photography awards, but for your daily stories? It does a decent enough job.
The cooler part is the AI stuff. Since it’s integrated with Google, you get AI Erase and Reflection Removal. These are lifesavers for fixing ruined shots. Just don’t go in expecting professional-grade photography here.
