Realme C71: My First Look Review

Realme C71: My First Look Review

The Realme C71 is here, a phone that can hold a charge for two days. But what about its other features? Up next, we’re going to dive deep into the C71 to see if it can challenge its rivals in other areas besides the battery.

Design

You can get the Realme C71 in Forest Owl and White Swan. The body is made of plastic, and there’s a cool feather-like pattern on the back panel that doesn’t catch fingerprints at all. The cameras are inside a rectangular module with a slight bump.

The frame around the phone is also plastic, and on the bottom, you’ll find a Type C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a speaker, and a microphone. The right side has the power button and volume rocker, the left side holds the SIM tray, and the top is totally bare.

The front panel is a flat display with symmetrical side bezels, but the top and bottom are asymmetrical. The top bezel is slightly thicker than the sides, and the bottom chin is even thicker than the top. Sure, it lacks symmetry, but you’ll get used to it after a while.

Even though it packs a massive battery, it’s only 7.8mm thick and weighs just 196g, meaning it’s not heavy or bulky. This phone also has an IP65 rating.

Display

The Realme C71 has a 6.67-inch IPS LCD screen with HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate! This 120Hz refresh rate is another winning card for this phone because, in this price range, you usually only see HD+ resolution combined with a 90Hz refresh rate at best. It gets pretty bright, and you won’t have any issues seeing it under direct sunlight.

Battery & Charger

The Realme C71 has a 6300mAh battery, which according to Realme’s claim, if you charge it for an hour, you can use it for up to two days! This is a bit of a bold claim, but it’s not totally out of reach because if you charge the C71 for an hour, you can actually get two days of normal usage out of it.

In my tests, watching a movie for 1.5 hours drops the battery by 10%, an hour of scrolling through Instagram takes up 4%, playing Call of Duty for an hour drains 7%, and recording video for an hour uses 15%. It’s truly amazing in terms of power consumption and battery capacity.

Plus, in this price range, it has a 45W adapter inside the box! If other brands even include a charger in this price bracket, it’s usually 18W, 25W, or a maximum 33W. But Realme has put a 45W adapter in the C71’s box that can fully charge the phone in about an hour and twenty minutes. The whole battery package, from capacity and battery life to the adapter, is just fantastic.

Camera

The cameras are definitely the weak point of the Realme C71 in my opinion. It features a 50MP main sensor and a 5MP ultrawide.

The photos from the main camera don’t have a lot of detail, the sharpness isn’t great, and you only get an average dynamic range. Honestly, you can just use it to capture memories, so don’t expect high-quality shots. It also doesn’t perform well in low light.

As for the ultrawide camera, I don’t really have much to say. When the main sensor doesn’t perform well, you naturally can’t expect much from the ultrawide.

The 1080p video recording at 30fps is also nothing to write home about, similar to photography. Realme obviously didn’t focus much on the C71’s cameras, and there are other phones in this price range with better setups. So, if your main focus is photography, you might want to look at its competitors, but this phone is all about the battery.

At first look, the photos from the 5MP selfie camera don’t have much detail but look okay. However, once you zoom in, they start looking like watercolor paintings.

Performance

Unisoc T7250 chipset, the processor used in the Realme C71.

For the processor, Realme put a Unisoc T7250 chipset inside the C71. It’s totally not meant for heavy gaming, but it handles the user interface well, and you won’t run into any serious issues. You can pick up this phone with 128GB of storage and either 4GB or 6GB of RAM.
