Poco X7 Pro: My First Look Review

Poco X7 Pro: My First Look Review

The Poco X7 Pro is hands down the best mid-range gaming phone out there. It’s faster, lasts longer, and packs more punch than the last gen, but it just doesn’t feel as lovable as its predecessor.

With the X6 Pro, Poco finally found its groove again, leaning into MediaTek’s raw power to win back the fans they lost after the X3 series. But did they truly fix the old flaws with the Poco X7 Pro, or is it just a spec-sheet hero? Let’s dive in and see if it’s actually worth your money.

Design & Build

Poco X7 Pro back panel design in Black, Green, and Yellow

It’s definitely a looker now. You can get the Poco X7 Pro in Black, Green, and Yellow. At 8.3mm and 195g, its only real downside is that glossy back panel. It’s a total fingerprint magnet. Just looking at it leaves a smudge!

Build quality? It’s plastic all around, from the frame to the back, but it doesn’t feel cheap at all. Plus, it has a feature we rarely see in mid-rangers: an IP68 rating (the Indian version even goes up to IP69).

The back of the Poco X7 Pro is flat, and the dual-camera setup looks way cleaner than that “four-burner stove” design on the X6 Pro. Also, they finally ditched that useless macro lens, good riddance!

Display & Sound

Poco X7 Pro 6.67-inch AMOLED display

Truth is, the screen was already fantastic last year. Poco figured “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and honestly, I’m not complaining. The X7 Pro keeps that gorgeous 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution and 68 billion colors. With Dolby Vision in the mix, it’s still an absolute feast for the eyes.

The peak brightness jumped from 1800 to 3200 nits. In real-world use, the difference is smaller (about 120 nits brighter), but it’s plenty for outdoor use. The bezels are super thin, giving it an 89% screen-to-body ratio. It’s protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, which is twice as tough as before.

Refresh rate? It’s a 120Hz adaptive panel, but not in the way you might think. It can only switch between 60Hz and 120Hz, and drops to 30Hz in AOD mode.

There are two hidden gems here that most reviewers miss. First, the 1920Hz PWM dimming is great for sensitive eyes. Second, the touch sampling rate is insane. It hits 480Hz by default but cranks up to 2560Hz in Game Turbo mode. That 15% boost over the last gen makes shooters feel incredibly snappy and responsive.

Gaming with Poco X7 Pro

For audio, the Poco X7 Pro packs dual speakers with Dolby Atmos. The sound is punchy and solid, with crisp highs and vocals that stay clear even at higher volumes.

Battery & Charging

Poco X7 Pro 6000mAh battery

The Indian version gets a massive 6550mAh battery, while the global version of the Poco X7 Pro settles for 6000mAh. That’s still a huge 1000mAh jump over the X6 Pro!

You’re looking at 8 hours of non-stop gaming or 16 hours of YouTube. It’s wild that Poco is using advanced silicon-carbon tech here, while the S25 Ultra is still playing it safe.

Poco X7 Pro 90W fast-charging

No charger in the box. With 90W fast-charging support, you’re back to 100% in just 45 minutes. Compare that to the competition’s ‘slow-motion’ 45W charging that still takes over an hour!

Poco also packed in the Surge P2 and G1 chips to manage the power. They claim the battery stays at 90% health even after 1000 cycles. That’s a bold claim I can’t verify in a week, but it’s definitely promising.

Performance & Gaming

Poco X7 Pro with 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra chip

This is where the Poco X7 Pro truly becomes a Flagship Killer. Powered by the 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra, this phone simply crushes games.

Playing PUBG with Poco X7 Pro

I tested Call of Duty on Max settings, and it stayed at a buttery-smooth 90FPS. Even during intense sessions, the new cooling system keeps everything stable, rarely crossing the 40°C mark.

Camera

Poco X7 Pro front and rear camera

The processor’s a monster, but the camera is monster food! The Poco X7 Pro has a 50MP main camera that takes photos with good colors. Detail, dynamic range, sharpness, and brightness are all acceptable, and there’s a 2x optical zoom.

Poco X7 Pro camera video recording

At night, photos get a bit soft and lose detail, though noise is low. However, it performs weaker than its competitors. Portraits are fantastic and separate the subject from the background perfectly. For video, it has 4K at 60FPS with gyro-EIS, which I can only describe as acceptable but not great.

The 8MP ultrawide camera isn’t good at all. It delivers soft photos that lack detail. I think if they removed the ultrawide system for the next generation, nobody would be upset.

On the front, the 20MP selfie camera is a letdown. Photos come out very soft with very little detail. The front camera records 1080p at 30FPS, and as you can probably guess, the quality isn’t anything to brag about.

OS & AI

The Poco X7 Pro ships with HyperOS 2 (Android 15). You get 3 years of OS updates and 4 years of security patches, which is a step behind Samsung, but it’s a fair trade-off for the price.

Gemini on Poco X7 Pro

The cool part? You get AI tools like Circle to Search and Gemini, plus that handy object removal feature in the photo editor.
