Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G: My First Look Review

Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G: My First Look Review

To be honest, if you ask me what I think about the Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G, I can sum it up in one sentence: it has modern specs and solid build quality, but if you are looking for a budget friendly, value for money deal, you should probably stay away from it. This phone just doesn’t offer great value for your money, and I have much better options in mind for you. Let’s break it down piece by piece so I can show you why.

Design & Build Quality

This year, Redmi ditched the curved edges from the previous generation and went with a completely flat, uniform look.

The corners are also rounder and softer, so you don’t feel that sharpness from last year. The screen size is a tiny bit bigger, though it’s so minor you might not even notice. As for the rear camera layout, it hasn’t changed at all from the previous model.

You can pick the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G in Black, Titanium color, and Glacier Blue. The frame and the back panel are entirely made of plastic! Frankly, it’s embarrassing for a phone in this price range, and I don’t get a premium vibe from this plastic body at all.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G captured mid-splash among water and rocks to showcase its rugged durability and waterproof design.

The only real upgrade here is the addition of an IP69K rating alongside the old IP68. This means the phone can handle high-pressure water jets and deeper water submersion.

But honestly, how many of us are actually going to hold our phone under a water jet or leave it at the bottom of a pool for half an hour? So, this rating isn’t really a mind-blowing feature, and the IP68 from last year was more than enough.

Instead, Xiaomi bumped up the price by about 50 to 60 dollars just for these useless extras, without giving us any exciting or groundbreaking upgrades in return.

Display & Speaker

Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G screen

Xiaomi used a 6.83-inch AMOLED screen on the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G, which has the same 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3120 nits, meaning the resolution and quality are identical to last year’s model.

It does have an adaptive refresh rate. When you’re scrolling through the interface, it runs at 120Hz, and the moment you lift your finger, it drops to 60Hz to save battery life.

However, the speakers got a great upgrade! The bass and sound quality show a noticeable improvement over the last generation, and I can easily call this a major strong point for the phone.

Performance

Mediatek Dimensity 7400 Ultra, the processor used in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G.

Xiaomi went with the Mediatek Dimensity 7400 Ultra chip for the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G. To be completely blunt, there’s nothing extraordinary or mind-blowing about this chipset.

For daily tasks and lighter games like PUBG, Call of Duty, and Delta Force, it gets the job done perfectly fine and gives you good frame rates.

But God forbid you try to play heavy games like Genshin Impact for a long time. That’s where the phone struggles, and you’ll start seeing lag, frame drops, and performance throttling.

The Note 15 Pro 5G comes in versions with 8GB of RAM with 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage, or 12GB of RAM with 256GB or 512GB of storage. I currently have the 128GB model with 8GB of RAM in my hands for this review.

OS & UI

The Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G runs on HyperOS 2 based on Android 16 out of the box. Honestly, it would’ve been better if it came with HyperOS 3 to be fully up to date. Xiaomi has promised 4 years of major software updates and 6 years of security patches.

The user experience is incredibly smooth. The latest AI features and settings are fully integrated. Plus, when you eventually update to HyperOS 3, you’ll get features like the Dynamic Island and more customization options.

Camera

The camera setup is pretty much identical to the previous generation, except Xiaomi did a great thing this year by completely removing that useless 2MP macro sensor. On the back of the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G, you’ll find a 200MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide lens.

In normal daily use and good lighting, it takes nice photos with plenty of detail and good colors. The 2x and 3x zoom also give you high-quality images. Night photography isn’t flawless, but it still captures natural-looking shots.

On the front, the 20MP selfie camera is identical to last year’s. It’s perfectly fine for capturing memories and sharing on social media, but you won’t see any massive leap in photo quality.

For video, the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G shoots in 4K at 30fps, and the optical image stabilization does a solid job of keeping shaky hands to a minimum.

Battery & Charger

Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G 6580mAh battery

I saved the best part of the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G for last because it’s the biggest selling point of this phone: the 6580mAh battery! Xiaomi added about 1500mAh to the battery capacity, which is absolutely incredible. For testing, I watched YouTube for two hours, and it only drained 10% of the battery.

With the 45W charger included in the box, a full charge takes about 75 minutes. Sure, it takes a bit longer to charge, but since the battery capacity is so huge and the battery life is amazing, we can easily overlook the slower charging speed.

Which Alternative Phones Do I Recommend?

Truthfully, I wouldn’t recommend buying the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G at all, and I think there are much better options on the market.

For instance, the Samsung Galaxy A36 is cheaper than this Redmi, and it’s a better, more budget-friendly phone when it comes to the user interface, software support, camera, and even build quality.

On the other hand, if you are a Xiaomi fan, I suggest you just go out and buy the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G from last year. By spending less money, you aren’t really missing out on anything major or noticeable compared to this new model.

Alright, so what do you think? Which phone do you think is actually worth buying in this price range? Leave your thoughts in the comments, and as always, I’ll read all of them.
