The Poco M8 Pro is a powerful and budget-friendly mid-ranger. It packs a massive silicon-carbon battery with crazy-fast 100W charging, and that 120Hz display is super-bright. It’s clearly here to shake up the market.
So, is this actually your next phone, or just more hype? I’m going to review the Poco M8 Pro and compare it with the standard model to see if it’s truly worth your hard-earned cash.
Design & Build: Rugged But Heavy
You can get the Poco M8 Pro in three colors: Black, Silver, and Green. The back panel isn’t just a flat color; it has a pretty unique pattern.
At 8.3mm thick and 206g, it might not be as slim or light as the standard Poco M8, but the curved edges and the plastic frame make the phone sit comfortably in your hand, offering great ergonomics.
Of course, finding a suitable screen protector for curved displays has always been a challenge, and the edges are more vulnerable to damage if dropped. The real win here is the toughness.
I’m talking about IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings. Most flagships stop at IP68. That means it’s not just dust-proof; it can survive a hot pressure shower. Not that you’d necessarily want to take your phone to the spa, but it’s nice to know you could!
The front is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which handles scratches and drops from up to 1 meter.
The Wet Touch 2.0 feature is also useful, as the screen remains responsive even when your hands are wet or sweaty.
Display & Audio: Overkill in a Good Way
If the design caught your eye, the Poco M8 Pro’s display will make you fall in love. We’re looking at a 6.83-inch AMOLED panel that can display 68 billion colors (12-bit color depth) and covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space. This means colors are incredibly vivid, accurate, and deep. With infinite contrast, it’s an ideal choice for watching movies and series. The 1.5K resolution (2772 x 1280) shows more detail than standard FHD displays, and with a pixel density of 447ppi, everything looks sharp and clear. Combine this with a 120Hz refresh rate for an ultra-smooth experience while browsing or using the phone.
The real star here’s the staggering 3200 nits peak brightness. You should know this is peak brightness, active only for small parts of the screen during HDR content. The actual brightness you’ll reach in High Brightness Mode (HBM) is 1800 nits. This number’s still fantastic, meaning you can easily read messages in direct summer sunlight without straining your eyes.
For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy A56 has a brightness of around 1200 nits. This massive gap shows Xiaomi’s chosen the display as the primary battlefield to crush its rivals. HDR10+ support also ensures you see every detail in the darkest and brightest spots while watching high-quality content on YouTube or Netflix.
If you’re anything like me and love a late-night scroll under the covers, you’re going to love this: the screen is virtually flicker-free, so no more eye strain.
As for the sound, Poco put in symmetrical stereo speakers. They claim a 400% volume boost. This is basically just a way of saying it gets really loud without sounding like a tin can.
Battery & Charging
Xiaomi’s packed a giant 6500mAh battery into the Poco M8 Pro, which has a larger capacity than the standard Poco M8. Combined with the efficient 4nm Qualcomm processor, the battery life is stellar. Tests show that with heavy mixed usage, the phone easily lasts a full day, and with moderate use, you can even count on it until the middle of the second day. It has nearly 1000mAh extra compared to the base Poco M8.
Charging speed’s also great thanks to the 100W adapter. A full 0 to 100% charge takes about 40 minutes. Even more impressive is that, according to Xiaomi, just 8 to 9 minutes of charging provides enough power for a full day. So, if you wake up and realize your phone’s dead, it’ll be charged for the whole day by the time you’ve had breakfast and gotten ready!
With 22.5W reverse charging, this phone turns into a power bank that can charge your friends’ dying iPhones.
Performance: Fast Enough for Most
Under the hood, the Poco M8 Pro is running the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset. It’s plenty powerful for daily stuff like Instagram, YouTube, and multitasking.
For gaming, they added a massive cooling system. I’m talking over 5000mm² of cooling area. The 2560Hz instant touch sampling in Game Turbo mode makes it feel very responsive.
You can definitely play popular games on medium settings without a hitch. But if you’re a pro gamer looking for max frames on Genshin Impact, you might want to look into something like the REDMAGIC 11 Pro instead.
While 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM is plenty, the biggest hardware weakness is the storage type. Poco used UFS 2.2 to keep costs down. To put it simply, imagine you have a Ferrari (the processor) but you’re driving it on a dirt road (UFS 2.2 storage). The top speed’s fine, but the acceleration’s slow. This means installing apps, loading game levels, and moving large files will be slower than on competitors that use UFS 3.1 or UFS 4.0. While this lag isn’t very noticeable in daily use, you’ll feel the difference if you place it next to a rival with faster storage.
Unlike the standard model, the Poco M8 Pro doesn’t support a microSD card, so be careful when choosing your storage option.
Camera: Light Fusion 800
The Poco M8 Pro’s camera setup is a bit of a mixed bag. The main 50MP Light Fusion 800 sensor is actually professional grade. With OIS and a wide f/1.6 aperture, it takes great low light shots. It also produces stable 4K video. It has a 1/1.55 inch sensor size which is quite large for this price range.
On the flip side, the 8MP ultrawide is just okay. It does the job for landscapes but don’t expect miracles. For selfies, the 32MP front camera gives you some solid detail in portraits. The AI tools like AI Erase Pro and Reflection Removal are pretty handy. They help fix photos without needing Photoshop.
Connectivity: Signal Everywhere
Poco actually put effort into the antennas here. They use something called a T1S Tuner and an 8L Signal Amplifier. This means you get better 5G reception in basements or elevators.
The Poco M8 Pro has a standard Dual SIM tray. It supports two nano SIM cards at the same time. There’s even an offline communication feature for calls when there is no signal. You’ll need another Xiaomi user nearby for that to work. It’s a niche feature but could be a lifesaver in emergencies.
It has all the basics covered too. You get Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and NFC for payments. It even includes an IR blaster to control your TV. It’s a complete package for staying connected.
OS & AI
Poco M8 Pro runs with HyperOS 2 based on Android 15. The best news here is the support. They are promising 4 major Android upgrades.
You get all the Google AI stuff too. This includes Circle to Search and Gemini Live.
What’s in the Box?
When you get the box, you’re getting the Poco M8 Pro, USB Type-C cable, SIM ejector tool, and a protective case. It’s not the full package though, because you’ve go to buy the charger separately.
